"The lifestyle of getting up in the morning and doing what I love to do does not happen by waiting for it... It does not take a genius. It takes heart, perseverance, and the fear of having to do something other than painting for a living!"

-David Solomon

A strong drive to paint has taken David across the globe in search of the inspiration he finds in seeing new places and meeting interesting people.

David works primarily on location ("plein air") and from his home and studio in Laguna Beach, California. He has been a regular exhibitor at the Festival of Arts in Laguna Beach since 1971, but is taking a sabbatical from the Festival schedule this year. Over his 30+ year career, David has created thousands upon thousands of paintings. His true love of art is easily seen in the vast body of work that he has created over the years.

David has been noted in Who's Who in the West. His work has received countless awards, been featured in numerous publications and hangs in prestigious art collections worldwide. He is a lifetime member of the National Watercolor Society and a Signature Member of the Laguna Plein Air Painters Association (LPAPA).

Born in East Los Angeles in 1943, David Solomon began to develop a love for art by studying the many billboards in the barrio. His uncle taught how to paint lettering for signs, and he eventually went on to graduate from the Art Center College of Design with a Masters Degree in Industrial Design. After graduating, he was drafted and assigned to the Army Exhibit Unit in Washington D.C.

It was in Washington that one of David's best friends from the army encouraged him to participate in the weekend outdoor art exhibitions. Since then, the lifestyle of a painter has been the only one for him. In 1969, he moved to Laguna Beach and began establishing himself as one of Southern California's best plein air painters.

He now maintains a busy schedule of painting excursions, teaching painting workshops, participating in several exhibitions each year, and working on commission.
